2015 UROP Conference Day

Being #UROPInspired at the 2015 UROP Conference Day

The premier event of UROP calendar, the #UROPInspired Conference Day, was held at Clarendon Rooms of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on the 17th of July .

The audience had the pleasure of hearing Dr Melanie Thomson from Deakin University; give the keynote address about unravelling the mysteries of crowd funding academic research and advantages of using of social media as a researcher.

Everyone that attended was blown away by the great views of the city and most of all the quality of the presentations. The UROP scholars gave the judges a near impossible task, to select the presentation prize winners.

Big congratulations go to the winners, Naomi Cohen (ARMI), and the runner-up, Phillip Pattie (Hudson Institute of Medical Research), for Biomedical presentation prize sponsored by CSL, as well as Yoshua Wakeham (Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre) and Julia McCoey (Monash University), the winner and runner-up, respectively, for the Computational presentation prize sponsored by VLSCI.

We were all totally #UROPInspired

Congratulations to the winners of the presentation prizes at the #UROPInspired conference day. (L-R) Julia McCoey (Monash University), Yoshua Wakeham (Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre), Naomi Cohen (ARMI) & Phillip Pattie (Hudson Institute of Medical Research).

Congratulations to the WEHI UROP Scholarship recipients

Congratulations to the two UROP students to receive the inaugural Walter and Eliza Hall Institute UROP Scholarships.

The awards were presented to Damian Pavlyshyn, a science student studying maths who has been working with Audrey Kan and Phil Hodgkin in the Immunology Division, and Simone Park, who is also completing a science degree and has been working with Leigh Coultas in the Development and Cancer division at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute.

Awarded on the basis of academic merit, these scholarships help to subsidise the recipient’s stipends. The scholarships were made possible by a generous donation to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute.
