Success of former UROP students

The Bio21 Cluster was delighted to see further proof of the value of the UROP scheme with the awarding of Commendations to former UROP students Dr Lin Wai Hung and Dr Michelle Boyle in the 2013 Premier’s Award for Health and Medical Research.

We congratulate them on their achievements and wish them continuing success as they head to the US to complete post-doctoral fellowships.

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program welcomes new UROP students!

It has been an exciting few months for UROP.

The Welcome Forum for 2013, generously supported by principal sponsor CSL, was held on February 23rd.  Approximatly 40 people in attendance heard from two current UROP students, Charles Gray (Walter & Eliza Hall Institute) and Ashwyn Perera (Murdoch Childrens Research Institute), who provided a practical and inspiring introduction to the new intake of students by describing their UROP experiences.  Representing the programs’ second principal sponsor, the Victorian Life Sciences Computation Initiative (VLSCI), Helen Gardiner also spoke about the computational resources available to UROP students through the VLSCI.

WEHI Announces UROP Scholarships

We are delighted to announce that the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research is offering a limited number of scholarships to WEHI laboratories’ towards the cost of a UROP student’s salary.  Research supervisors who submit UROP projects based at the WEHI, and not already awarded another stipend, will be eligible to be considered for this award.  UROP projects may be in any area of research conducted at WEHI, such as infection, inflammation, immunity, cancer, cell death, stem cells, development, structural biology, bioinformatics and drug development.

VLSCI continues their fantastic support of UROP: Four Part-Stipends each worth $6000

We are delighted to announce that the Victorian Life Sciences Computation Initiative (VLSCI) have continued their generous support in offering to sponsor part-stipends , each valued at $6000 per relevant project for a 12 month placement.  Projects that are for 6 months duration will receive pro rata funding of $ 3000.  There are 4 part stipend scholarships available for the upcoming round of UROP, Winter 2013.
